He has the two qualifications:

Appointed by God (5:4); reconciling us to God

Ability to sympathize with our weaknesses (4:15); he was human, too

Heb 4:14-16

v. 14a, passed through the heavens (Jn 20:17; Heb 9:24)

v. 14b, hold fast to our confession (Peter)

v. 15a, tested as we are (Gen 3:6 and Mt 4:1-11)

v. 15b, yet without sin (solves the problem of the unacceptable sacrifice--Heb 10:1-4, 9:12, 26)

v. 16a, we can approach the throne with boldness

one mediator, not Mary, etc.

v. 16b, we may receive mercy and grace
