Straddling the Fence

Amos: lay preacher; not schooled at the school of the prophets; sheep breeder. God is an exclusive God.

1. vv. 18-20, Exclusivity OF God

They were hedging their bets

Law of noncontradiction

Oprah once said, “there is no way Jesus is the only way to God”

The worst thing they could do was be lukewarm (church in Laodicia, Rev 3.14-16; worshipping God AND idols).

They substituted the God that was for the God they wanted
